Opening an online clothing store today is not an easy task. On the one hand, everything seems simple: create a website, add good photos of the products - and wait for customers. But the reality is different. If people do not find your website in Google, then it does not matter what your product range is - there will be no orders.

That is why SEO (that is, search engine optimization) is something that cannot be ignored. But do not be afraid of this word. SEO is not about complex technical terms, but about making the site convenient, understandable and interesting for people. And also - so that Google can easily find it, understand it and show it in the search.

1. Keyword Research – Where It All Begins

When people search for clothes online, they type certain phrases into Google. For example:

  • "women's dress for summer"

  • "children's trousers buy cheap"

  • "men's tracksuit 2025"

These phrases are called keywords . If you know what your potential customers are looking for, you can use these words in product titles, descriptions, articles - and then the site will appear in search.

How to find out what people are searching for?

There are free services:

  • Google Keyword Planner - if you have a Google Ads account

  • Ubersuggest - simple and clear

  • Keyword Tool - will show what people enter in Google, YouTube, TikTok

You enter the word “T-shirt” and see options: “oversize T-shirt”, “T-shirt with a print”, “white women’s T-shirt”, etc. And you already understand how best to name a product or an article.

Advice: Don't try to "shove" keywords everywhere. Write naturally. Imagine that you are explaining to a sales person, and not just "driving SEO".

2. Unique content is your best seller

Many simply copy descriptions from other sites or from the manufacturer. But Google does not like this. It wants the text to be written in "your own words."

What exactly should be written??

  • Product description . Not just "men's shirt, blue." A: "Comfortable men's shirt made of natural cotton. Fits well, suitable for the office and for walks. Available in sizes from M to XXL.

  • Articles. For example: "How to choose a jacket for winter" or "5 trends of spring 2025." Such materials can attract search traffic, even if people do not buy anything yet, but will return later.

  • Photos and videos. If possible, take photos of your product yourself, or shoot a short video with a real example - this works much better than just catalog pictures.

3. Headlines and meta descriptions are the first thing a person sees in Google

Imagine someone is searching for “women’s jacket spring 2025” and sees in the search:

Headline: "Women's Jackets Spring 2025 | Stylish Clothing Store"
Description: New items for the 2025 season. High-quality fabrics, fashionable cut, delivery across Ukraine. Browse our range!"

This is the title and meta description. They not only affect SEO, but also simply motivate a person to click.

Tip: Make each heading unique. Don't copy the same template across all pages.

4. Links - internal and external

A website is like a city. And the more convenient roads (links) it has, the better.

Internal links

  • From the product page you can provide a link to similar products

  • In articles – links to categories or new products

This helps people stay on the site longer and navigate better.

External links

If someone mentions your site on a blog, forum or social media, that's a big plus. The more quality external links you have, the more authoritative your site looks in Google.

5. Sitemap - navigator for search engines

This is a special file (sitemap.xml) that lists all the pages of your site. It helps Google understand what you have faster.

When using platforms like WordPress or Shopify, the map is created automatically.

6. Loading speed – to avoid losing customers

Nobody wants to wait 10 seconds for a page to open. And if the site is slow, the user will leave without even looking.

What to do?

  • Compress photos (but without losing quality)

  • Use caching

  • Connect CDN (this is like "distributed content delivery" to speed up the site)

7. Mobile Optimization Is a Must

In 2025, more than 80% of online purchases will be made via phone. Therefore, the site should be convenient for mobile.

  • Large font

  • Buttons not too small

  • Quick adaptation to any screen size

Test yourself: open the site on your phone and see if it is convenient to use.

8. Use analytics to understand what works

Without analytics it’s like without a compass. You can go, but not know where.

Connect Google Analytics and Search Console – it’s free. And you will know:

  • Where do people come from

  • What do they watch

  • Where do they "hang out" and where do they go

Based on this, you can improve the site: add the necessary products, improve the texts or change the structure.

9. Social networks are your additional traffic

Instagram, TikTok, Facebook are not just entertainment, but also a way to bring people to the site.

  • Share photos of new products

  • Make a video: “what’s new”, “what it looks like in real life”

  • Give a link to a website or a specific product

You can also use advertising even with a small budget, but clearly tailored to your audience.

10. What's New in SEO in 2025?

Artificial intelligence

Many online stores have started using AI to write product descriptions, translate texts, and select titles. But it is important to add something “human” – unique phrases, emotions, style.

Voice search

People are increasingly searching with their voice: “find me a black dress in size L.” So include conversational queries in your texts.

Selling a referral through social networks

More and more purchases are made directly on Instagram or TikTok. But still, large purchases are made through the website. Therefore, your website should be ready to accept customers from social networks.

Table: What photo sizes are best to use?

Image type Recommended size
Main product photo 1000 × 1000
Photos in the gallery 800 × 800
Thumbnails (product previews) 300 × 300
Banners on the main page 2000 × 500

Tip: It's better to have 2-3 photos of the product from different angles so that people can see the details.

Conclusion

SEO is not something super complicated. It is simply a set of actions that will help your store be visible in Google. The main thing is to do everything in a human way: understandable, convenient, useful. Do not copy other people's texts, do not marry "chips", but rather think about how to make the site pleasant for the buyer. And then Google will notice this too.
